I have thought about starting a blog for a long time.
Not because the internet needs another person sharing their opinions. There are certainly enough of those.
But because I have increasingly found myself wanting a place to think out loud.
My work has always centered on communication:
- How we share information
- How we build trust
- How organizations respond when things get complicated
- How the words we choose can bring people closer together or push them further apart
Over the years, I have learned that the most interesting parts of communications rarely fit neatly into a press release, social post or talking point.
They are the questions underneath the work.
How do you communicate when there is no perfect answer?
How do you make an organization sound like actual people?
How do you earn trust before you need it?
How should communications teams use AI without losing the judgment, empathy and humanity that make good communication work?
And how do we move our profession beyond simply producing things and become more deeply involved in helping organizations listen, understand and make better decisions?
Those are the kinds of questions I want to explore here.
I will write about communications, public relations, leadership, technology, storytelling, travel and the ways all of those things increasingly overlap. Some posts may come from something I am wrestling with professionally. Others may be observations, ideas, lessons learned or things I simply cannot stop thinking about.
I do not expect every post to arrive with a perfectly packaged answer. In fact, I hope they do not.
Part of the reason I wanted to create this space is to leave a little more room for curiosity.
So, welcome.
This is Writing, a collection of ideas from someone who believes good communication is ultimately less about what we say and more about how well we understand the people on the other side of it.
I am glad you are here.
